Location: 3735-8th Street Nisku, AB

Work Hours: Part-Time to Full-Time Schedule (daytime shifts, Part Time to Full Time - 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (Monday to Friday). You must be able to work at least 24 hours a week to start, with a gradual movement to full-time when the business requires based on the production schedule.)

Job Overview Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, as the Sawyer you ensure lumber is sawed accurately according to order specifications using a variety of industrial saws. You work in a safe manner, and adhere to Qualico’s Safety Program.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing instructions and determining the required lumber type, size, grade and length, ensuring proper stamp on the correct grade.
• Inspecting lumber quality, sort and store lumber in designated areas.
• Ensuring sufficient raw materials available at the station in an organized manner.
• Coordinating lumber placements with the forklift operator when necessary.
• Ensuring lumber is sawed in accordance with specified dimensions and angles.
• Counting, sorting and stacking cut work pieces, attaching truss design drawings accordingly.
• Examining work orders to determine appropriate procedures and proper setup of equipment.
• Promoting a safe work environment, adhering to Qualico’s Safety Program and relevant safety regulations, and reporting safety violations when necessary.

Essential Requirements:

• Completion of middle school, must be able to read and write and perform basic math.
• Minimum 6 months industrial sawing experience.
• Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
• Attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and situational awareness of the physical work environment.
• Physically able to kneel and crouch as well as lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience using a variety of tools such as nail guns, saws and banding machines is definitely an asset.
• Working in a production plant with lumber is and asset.

Working Conditions: You primarily work on site, Monday to Friday. Work has exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather and dust. Overtime may occasionally be required.
