Job Overview: Reporting to the Design Manager, Star Building Materials, Calgary as the Designer, Engineered Wood Products, you are responsible for creating the structural framework that supports roofs, ceilings, and walls in buildings. You may work with light metal plate connected wood trusses for roof and floor applications, prefabricated wood I-joists and structural composite lumber (SCL) in an engineered wood products (EWP) design and manufacturing environment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Managing design work schedule to ensure jobs are completed on time.
• Creating computer models using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Developing optimized customer standard models that are cost effective, shop efficient and framer friendly.
• Reviewing and interpreting customer-supplied documents, such as blueprints or drawings, to identify if any areas require clarification. (You may meet with clients to discuss project details and design specifications).
• Completing fabrication ready designs for residential home structures.
• Implementing design changes and communicating with other related departments to ensure designs are accurate and consistent.
• Reviewing constructability of the projects and identify opportunities for value engineering.
• Preparing fabrication packages for production department, and site packages for installers.
• Supporting other projects or duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Job Overview Reporting to the Construction Manager, as the Construction Labourer you will perform general labour activities and basic carpentry tasks on construction job sites. You also assist in ensuring cleanliness and organization of the construction site. This is a 6-month term position.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Maintaining cleanliness of construction sites. Ensuring proper disposal of waste and scrap materials.
• Collecting excess materials or supplies and transporting to storage facility. Maintaining organization of the storage facility.
• Loading and unloading construction materials, and preparing site for sub-trades including floor cleaning in preparation for flooring installation.
• Completing basic carpentry tasks, and supporting onsite team members or trades with construction activities.
• Complying with Qualico’s Safety Program and relevant safety legislation.
• Reporting incidents or near-miss incidents immediately to the Site Superintendent.
• Completing other tasks as assigned.

• Completing basic carpentry tasks, assembling wall panels, and properly securing the materials. Inspecting finished shipping packages for accuracy and quality.
• Ensuring wood is cut according to specified dimensions and angles.
• Examining work orders to determine equipment set up and procedures to be used.
• Building and stacking pony walls on skids and banding bundles with steel strapping.
• Operating diesel, electric or propane powered forklifts to safely move goods. Supplying production area with feedstock materials.
